When this Yin Yang is balanced then a person feels relaxed and organized and when this is unbalanced it affects one’s health.

Whenever someone visit’s a Chinese pharmacy it’s like he/she is having an experience in a natural history museum. The cabinets, glass cases. jars, everything holds a variety of desiccated plants and animal material.

TCM practitioners believe that in everyone’s body there is a life force which is termed QI pronounced as Chee. Whenever there is too much or too little Qi in one’s body pathways this is termed as meridians. The goal of the TCM is to balance the qi and promote a natural flow of qi.

It is explained in an analogy like the wind in a sail, one does not see the wind directly, but is aware of the presence it fills the sail.

TCM’s first writing was back in 200 BCE, it included therapies like acupuncture and herbal medicine which also included the theories like diagnosis, practice, treatment, and classical Chinese texts. The TCM practice was in Asia for centuries.

The Chinese immigrants, after reading such chinese medicine books, started to practice this in United Stated in the mid-19th century. Although people there got to know about this before 1971. Since then Traditional Chinese Medicine has been a mainstream alternative therapy all over the world.

A person who practices TCM uses the sources like smell, voice vibration, smell, touch, and pulse diagnosis to know about the unbalanced condition of a person’s unbalanced health, which meridians are affected, and which organs it is related to the disease.

The practitioner is making the use of five agents i.e by observing the natural law in action which are: mu (wood), huo (fire), jin (metal), tu (earth), and shui (water).

The practitioner uses this 5-element theory to create a healing plant that contains components like herbs, acupuncture, lifestyle, and food changes. This also includes Chinese psychology which shows the energy of unbalanced emotions can affect the proper functioning of an organ.

When the normal flow of qi is imbalanced, there are three major causes of it: environmental factors, lifestyle factors, and internal emotions. With the use of therapeutic modalities, the traditional Chinese medicine has their healing techniques, which include:

  • Moxibustion, burning an herb near the skin
  • Nutrition
  • Acupuncture & Acupressure
  • Exercises, like tai chi and qi gong which combine movement with meditation
  • Herbal medicine
  • Tui na which is called the Chinese massage

In TCM it is believed that the qi flows through different organs in the body like the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, gallbladder, etc.

Over the centuries, people have cured many conditions of TCM. Traditional Chinese medicine is best known to treat conditions like obesity, back pain, male & female fertility disorders, and many more.
