These are the domestic animals, marine animals like fishes, prawns, etc. are also used for meat and flesh as they also have high nutrient values in them.

Animals are domesticated in villages from ancient times for obtaining a range of products from them. All these animal products are useful to man and are a good source of livelihood for farmers.

All this is particularly monitored by the department of animal husbandry as this is a large-scale business. These animals are cared for, bred, reared, and sheltered in a region or farm that is specially built for these animals. Animal husbandry has four types of categories that are as follows:

  1. Dairy Farming
  2. Fish Farming
  3. Poultry Farming
  4. Bee Farming

Dairy Farming:  In this types of farming domestic animals like cows, sheep, goats, and buffaloes are managed to obtain milk from them in large production and later milk is processed further to obtain milk products like cheese, and curd, butter, yogurt, cream, etc. The milk is either obtained by hands or by machines and then is preserved and sent to big industries for commercial use. All these animals are taken care of from diseases and regular veterinary doctors visit them.

Fish Farming: There is a high demand for fish protein,  so fish farming is a type of farming fishes in closed tanks or ponds are raised for commercial purposes. Species like catfish, cod, salmon, and tilapia are raised on these farms.

Poultry Farming: In this type of farming birds like ducks, turkeys, chickens, etc. are raised for eggs and meat/flesh. As these food products are rich in source of protein. The farmers manage to supply rich nutrient fodder to keep these animals strong and increase high production rates. The feces of birds are used in making manure for soil fertility.

Bee Farming: Honey is obtained from bees, thus bees are kept in man-made colonies for wax, honey and to pollinate flowers. These bees are kept in a bee yard or apiary.

All these farming activities provide opportunities for small-scale farmers as well as medium-scale farmers. Women workers get the opportunity of self-employment.

As agriculture farming needs big lands and is dependent on rain so animal husbandry provides them with better conditions of employment.

There are many other advantages too like high-yielding breeds of animals are cross-breed to develop high-yield production. It helps in the proper disposal of animal waste which helps in promoting a healthy environment.
