Acupuncture Books: Acupuncture therapy is a form of complementary therapy that involves the use of very thin needles in the body. This therapy has roots in Traditional Chinese medicine. The acupuncture points present in the human body create pathways for energy to flow through the body which is responsible for overall health. The practitioner says that when acupuncture is applied on certain points it is thought to improve the flow of Qi (pronounced as “Chee”), which helps in improving the health. The thin needles used in this therapy rebalance the body’s energy and prompt the body to release a natural chemical to fight the illness or symptom.

Acupuncture therapy has helped people to get relief from pain and has treated a range of other complaints as well. Some people think that it works by balancing vital energy, whereas some people think that it has a neurological effect.

Traditional Chinese medicine or TCM explains that health is the cause of harmonious balance of the complementary extremes of yin and yang of one’s life force which is known as Qi, and believes that illness is the consequence of an imbalance of these forces.

TCM believes that Qi flows through pathways or meridians. These energy flows and meridians are accessible through 361 acupuncture points of the body and when needles are inserted into these points this combination brings the energy flow back into the balance.

Acupuncture works in a way when hundreds of acupoints in the human body get along with 14 major meridians, also known as energy-carrying channels and they stimulate the body’s existing systems to:

  • They rebalance the body.
  • They react to symptoms or an illness in the body.
  • They release natural chemicals like endorphins, natural body painkillers, and chemicals that control nerve impulses and neurotransmitters.

When someone visits the acupuncturist for their first appointment, the examiner will ask and examine the person’s body to check for the areas that will undergo the acupuncture therapy.

Then the acupuncturist inserts the sterile needles at various depths into the body and they are inserted at a fraction of an inch to a couple of inches from each other.

The needles stay in for a few minutes and max for 20 minutes. According to some people needles when inserted cause minimal pain as they are inserted at a point that produces a sensation of pressure or aches.

Sometimes the acupuncturist heats the needles during the treatment or applies a mild current to them. People have shared their experience that this therapy makes their body relaxed and they feel energized after that.

Sometimes other than needles the therapy also involves other forms of stimulation like heat (moxibustion), pressure (acupressure), friction, suction (cupping), and impulses of electromagnetic energy.

It is believed that this acupuncture points to stimulation in the central nervous system. This then releases the chemicals into the spinal cord, brain, and muscles.

The NIH or National Institutes of Health studies have proven that acupuncture therapy is an effective treatment.

Many Americans have taken the help of this treatment to get relief from chronic pain like arthritis, etc. To understand and get detailed knowledge about Acupuncture therapy you can have a look on our well-organized PDFs and topics available down below + All For Free.
